The Pleasant Grove Vikings waltzed into Thursday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Springville by a score of 47-40. This was payback for Pleasant Grove, who suffered a 61-44 loss the last time these two teams met.
Pleasant Grove had a senior duo take command as Sarah Newman dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds and Amber Cook scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Newman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tabi Clark, who scored 7 points.
When it comes to explaining why Springville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sami DeLlamas. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds. Bella Esplin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, Springville were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasant Grove only pulled down seven.
Pleasant Grove's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Springville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Pleasant Grove will head out on the road to face off against Maple Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maple Mountain will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Springville will take on Corner Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Corner Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
