Dodge County took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 31-29 victory over the Bleckley County Royals. The Indians have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Royals, too.
Dodge County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jauriel Bray, who picked up 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Bray didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended two passes. Another passer making a difference was Kain Mincey, who threw for 257 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Dodge County's defense and their five sacks. Bleckley County's QB won't forget Dorian Hughes anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Cam Hughes was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Brody Fleming and Octavius Tate certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Fleming threw for 287 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Tate picked up 116 receiving yards and one score. A healthy portion of Fleming's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) also went to Connor Cairney.
Bleckley County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Dodge County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 46-8 victory against Central on the 29th. As for Bleckley County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-0 win against East Laurens on the 29th.
