JT Price was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bobby Villa III was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Centennial: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Liu Rodriguez Jr was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arcadia only posted an OBP of .083.
Meanwhile, Chaparral came up short against Notre Dame Prep on Thursday and fell 6-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Firebirds in their meetings with the Saints: they've now lost three in a row.
Ryan Penney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those hits were his first of the season.
At the plate, Chaparral saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Mesa, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Centennial pushed their record up to 5-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 5.11 in the others. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Chaparral's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. It's a different story for Chaparral, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Centennial's hitters?
Centennial came out on top in a nail-biter against Chaparral in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will Centennial repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
