The Marshall Mavericks lost against the Whitehouse Wildcats back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Marshall might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Whitehouse an easy 70-49 victory. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 836th, while Whitehouse is ranked 116th).
Marshall lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Avah Flanagan, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Jakairi Blacknell, who scored 14 points.
Marshall's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-12. As for Whitehouse, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will be home for the holidays to greet Texas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Texas and Marshall are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. Whitehouse will be home for the holidays to greet Mt. Pleasant at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
