Old Forge is 9-1 against Dunmore since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Bucks at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Old Forge's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Honesdale with a sharp 15-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won eight in a row.
Joselyn DeStefano and Gwyn O'Hearn did most of the damage at the plate: DeStefano got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, while O'Hearn went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave O'Hearn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyana Rodriguez, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dunmore got the win against Riverside on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-2.
Rachel Walsh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Walsh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Dunmore let Aubrey Mizenko and Emily McGowan run wild. Mizenko went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while McGowan went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jackie Brown was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Dunmore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Old Forge's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Dunmore, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Old Forge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Dunmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Old Forge's way against Dunmore in their previous meeting back in April, as Old Forge made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bucks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
