The Stayton Eagles will challenge the Payette Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Stayton comes in on three and Payette on five.
On Monday, Stayton got the win against Emmett by a conclusive 13-6. Considering the Eagles have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Myles Emmert made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Emmert was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Travis Conklin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Liam Brown was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
Stayton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Payette made easy work of New Plymouth on Monday and carried off a 12-2 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pirates have posted against the Pilgrims since March 20, 2021.
Like Stayton, Payette also got a great game from a two-way player: Michael O'Campo. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. O'Campo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Darrien Pecunia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Stayton's record is now 4-1. As for Payette, their record now sits at 6-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stayton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Payette struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
