Mineola is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Mount Vernon Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Mount Vernon took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Mineola, who comes in off a win.
Mineola is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past North Lamar 37-14 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their eight-point performance the game before.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braelyn Geremonte and Aidan Shepherd. Geremonte rushed for 135 yards and one score while picking up 7.5 yards per carry while Shepherd gained 61 total yards and a touchdown. With that strong performance, Geremonte is now averaging an impressive 101 rushing yards per game.
Mineola was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Mineola didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kolten Garrigus, Eric Casper, and Kipton Neighbors picked up one apiece. Another thorn in North Lamar's side was Ayden Phillips, who made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 22-17 to Atlanta. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mineola will have to contain Dawson Witherspoon as he made an impact in Mount Vernon's last game. He rushed for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Witherspoon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 162 every time he's taken the field this season.
The win got Mineola back to even at 2-2. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Mineola has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 254.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 237 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mineola couldn't quite finish off Mount Vernon in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 and fell 17-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Witherspoon, who rushed for 185 yards and one TD.
