North Sevier is 8-2 against Piute since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. North Sevier will host Piute at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
North Sevier barely beat Wayne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. North Sevier put the hurt on Wayne with a sharp 15-3 win on Saturday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Chloe Malmgren made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since March 5th. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Avery Taylor was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since March 5th. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Quarnberg, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Piute, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-16 victory over Panguitch on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunderbirds have posted since March 19, 2024.
Like North Sevier, Piute also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashlynne Moore. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and 12 unearned) runs off ten hits. Moore was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Piute got a massive performance out of Kenadi King, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Trinity Robinson, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.
Piute always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory snapped North Sevier's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-7 record. As for Piute, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5.
North Sevier was able to grind out a solid victory over Piute when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 13-8. Will North Sevier repeat their success, or does Piute has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
