The Canyon Hills Rattlers will head out on the road to face off against the Kearny Komets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Hills is hoping to put an end to a 14-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Canyon Hills' game on Saturday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. The match between Canyon Hills and San Diego wasn't particularly close, with Canyon Hills falling 35-21. That's two games in a row now that Canyon Hills has lost by exactly 14 points.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Kearny's strategy against Calipatria on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Kearny blew Calipatria out of the water with a 58-0 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Kearny had established a 51 point advantage.
Jaylen Hill and Brodie Stump were among the main playmakers for Kearny as the former gained 132 total yards and three touchdowns and the latter threw for 333 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes.
Kearny's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB 5.5 times. The heavy lifting was done by Marcos Torres and Connor Nevada who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
San Diego's victory bumped their season record to 3-6 while Canyon Hills' loss dropped theirs to 0-9.
Canyon Hills was dealt a bruising 49-20 defeat at the hands of Kearny when the teams last played back in November of 2018. Thankfully for Canyon Hills, Duce Reynolds (who rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
