This season hasn't been kind to the Southwestern Randolph Cougars, who are still winless after their seventh game. They took a 57-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Davidson on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Southwestern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 568th, while East Davidson is ranked 278th).
Southwestern Randolph's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nathan Ellis, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Brayden Chapman who scored 15 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kenan Sugg, who scored three points.
Southwestern Randolph bumped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for East Davidson, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Southwestern Randolph will be home for the holidays to greet Trinity at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Davidson, they will head out on the road to face off against Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
