The Goshen Eagles will take on the Luverne Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Luverne will be up against a hot Goshen squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. The Eagles blew past Pike Liberal Arts 51-7 last Friday. With the Eagles ahead 22-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Grant Taylor had a dynamite game, throwing for 143 yards and two TDs on only eight passes, while also rushing for 108 yards on only seven carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 57 yards. Goshen's leading receiver JaDarius Burney was Taylor's top target yet again, picking up 89 receiving yards and one score.
Goshen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Burney and JT Beck. Beck got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while Luverne put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Barbour County. The Tigers really took it to the Jaguars for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-0 victory. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Goshen better keep an eye on Kane Smith. He was instrumental in Luverne's win, throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. What's more, Smith racked up 158.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Elliott Harris was another key player, picking up 99 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Luverne's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Goshen, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Everything came up roses for Goshen against Luverne in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-12 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Harris, who rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 48 receiving yards.
