Quincy is a perfect 5-0 against Illini West since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Quincy has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Quincy managed to slip by Galesburg the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Blue Devils lost 11-4 to the Silver Streaks on Monday. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Quincy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Wells, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Mason Ritter also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Illini West made easy work of Seymour on Monday and carried off a 16-3 win. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 12 runs or more this season.
Jaydyn Combites looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ethan Carlisle, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Nick Johnson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Illini West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seymour only posted an OBP of .385.
The victory made it two in a row for Illini West and bumps their season record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Quincy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Quincy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Illini West struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Quincy's way against Illini West in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, as Quincy made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
