The Daniel Lions put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Crescent at home to the tune of 50-0. Fans of Daniel have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Daniel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kolton Chapman led the charge by rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 123 yards and a touchdown. Kari Bennett was another key contributor, rushing for 32 yards and two touchdowns.
Daniel's win was their 12th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-7 West-Oak and 4-7 Southside (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 43% over those games). As for Crescent, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Daniel will be playing in front of their home fans against Blue Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Blue Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Daniel is ranked eighth). As for Crescent, they will head out on the road to face off against Chapman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chapman knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Crescent likes a good challenge.
