Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Sydney Savoury of
Belleville is the 2024-25 Michigan MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11 sophomore guard led the Tigers to a 28-1 record and the Division 1 state championship — the school's first.
For the season, Savoury averaged 26.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. In a 61-48 win over Rockford in the state final, she scored a team-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Savoury already has compiled a list of college offers that includes Louisville Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, TCU and UCLA among others.
