First Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the St. Teresa's Catholic Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully First Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 two weeks ago.
Two weeks ago, First Academy came up short against Colquitt Christian Academy and fell 42-34.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Logan James, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Logan Steele, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. Teresa's Catholic scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 63-62 win over Community Christian Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
St. Teresa's Catholic's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sermario MJ Wiggins, who scored 23 points, and Ricardo Resendez, who scored 31 points. That's the first time this season that Wiggins scored 15 or more points.
First Academy's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.6 points per game. As for St. Teresa's Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
First Academy came up short against St. Teresa's Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 46-35. Can First Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
