Quitman extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 5 this week by beating Poplarville, 54-20. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Quitman took down the Hornets 54-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Laurel's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Keon Howard threw for 222 and three touchdowns and Ocatvious Cooley had 102 yards receiving. On the ground Virzil Tillman chipped in 38 yards. Dauro Rogers helped Laurel's passing attack out by catching four balls for 49 yards.
The Golden Tornadoes' Howard and Cooley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howard has thrown for 1959 yards this season, while Cooley, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 57 catches for 902 yards. Franklin Jones from Steven Bynum's team leads the league in rushing with 1605 yards.
The Panthers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on Poplarville.
