Baseball Recap: Wesclin Sets Scoring Season-High Against Valmeyer

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wesclin). They put the hurt on the Valmeyer Pirates with a sharp 16-4 victory on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on five straight.

Owen Szpila was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Landon Middleton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Wesclin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valmeyer only posted an OBP of .269.

Wesclin's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Valmeyer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Wesclin will head out to face off against Red Bud at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Musketeers have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Valmeyer, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 8-3 loss against Gibault Catholic on the 28th.
