Football Game Preview: Union Cougars vs. Grantsville Cowboys + Official Tickets

Union is 1-9 against Grantsville since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cougars will challenge the Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Union will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

Union's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 50-0 win over Ben Lomond. That 50 point margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Union's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gannon Labrum, who threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most passing yards Labrum has posted since back in August.

Union was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 328 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Union didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Boston Horrocks and Labrum. Labrum's passing game has become a key predictor of Union's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-5 otherwise. The Cougars got some further help from Rhyker Oakden: he picked up two sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, after only ten points in their last game, Grantsville made sure to put some points up on the board against Logan on Thursday. The Cowboys strolled past the Grizzlies with points to spare, taking the game 49-33.

Grantsville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points over those games. As for Union, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-5.

Union was taken down by Grantsville 55-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Cougars were down 34-7.
