Basketball Recap: Mackay Has No Trouble Against Leadore

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rockland, Mackay was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 58-39 victory over the Leadore Mustangs. The game marked the Miners' most dominant win of the season so far.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mackay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jesse Barger, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Barger a new career-high in points. Kaizer Summers was another key player, putting up 13 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Leadore's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Porter Mayo, who posted 20 points and five steals, and Dane Piippo, who had 14 points and eight rebounds. Piippo has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played.

Mackay now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Leadore, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mackay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-38 victory against Grace Lutheran on the 9th. As for Leadore, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-46 loss against Sho-Ban on the 7th.
