The Centura Centurions couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost to Holdrege at home by a decisive 62-46 margin on Thursday. Centura lost against Holdrege in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 69-59 score last time.
Centura's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Barrett Fries, who scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Mason Gorecki was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Garret Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew for Holdrege as he scored 29 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hartzog, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
Centura's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Holdrege, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centura will face off against Wood River at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holdrege won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Broken Bow at 7:45 p.m. on December 1st.
