Everything went Lanai's way against Molokai on Saturday as they made off with a 44-16 win. Molokai can consider this payback for the 38-73 loss they dealt Lanai the last time the teams encountered one another.
Lanai's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 28 points in the first half. Molokai came up with 2 to make it 28-2 heading into the break. The offense for Lanai continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 16 points to put the game away.
Junior Devrene Kahananui-Alejado, who picked up 105 yards on the ground and threw 4 TDs, was a major factor in the success. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Kanalu Lopez-Agliam, who racked up 15 tackles. The victory got Lanai out to a 1-0 start for the season. The loss dropped Molokai back to even at 1-1.
Both teams are staying within the conference for their upcoming matches. Next week, Lanai take on Hana at War Memorial Stadium at 12:00 PM. As for Molokai, they will face off against Seabury Hall.
