Ben Lomond kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were outmatched by the Kearns Cougars and fell 48-6. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gavin Rivera, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Javier Garcia was nothing short of spectacular for Kearns: he rushed for 170 yards and two scores on only 12 carries. Another rusher making a difference was Jordan Britt, who rushed for 78 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ben Lomond will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Evanston at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Kearns, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against Clearfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
