The Desert Pines Jaguars's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 63-54 win over Spring Valley. Winning is a bit easier when you make eight more threes than your opponent, as Desert Pines did.
Desert Pines' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damonte Duhart, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 21 rebounds, and ten assists. Duhart is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joe Brown, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Spring Valley still got an impressive performance from Alijah Adem, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The match was Adem's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Shuford, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Desert Pines' win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Spring Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Desert Pines will be playing in front of their home fans against Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Spring Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
