The New Milford Knights will square off against the Fort Lee Bridgemen at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
New Milford is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Cliffside Park on Thursday. The Knights skirted past the Raiders 5-3. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Liam Block and Luis Placido did most of the damage at the plate: Block went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Placido went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That triple marked the first that Block has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Glen Murata, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Fort Lee waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Royals get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The game was the first time the Bridgemen have beaten the Royals on their field since April 24, 2021.
Fort Lee also got a great performance from Gabriel Garcia as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Garcia a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Dorkhom, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Luke Senatore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
Fort Lee pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for New Milford, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Milford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Lee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
