Softball Recap: Kelso Makes It Four in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Prairie, Kelso was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Heritage Timberwolves 14-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hilanders also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Paityn Mackin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

In other pitching news, Kylie Killett looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kailanah Hagdahl and Skylar Richie did most of the damage at the plate: Hagdahl went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Richie went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Hagdahl has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Harlee Barnes, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Kelso kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only managed one hit.

Kelso's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Heritage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Kelso has already played their next match, a 4-1 win against Mountain View on the 6th. As for Heritage, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-1 victory against Evergreen on the 6th.
