If the Harding Skippers were feeling good off their 42-22 takedown of the Lordstown Red Devils on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Harding fell 43-33 to Mathews on Thursday. Harding lost against Mathews in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 66-53 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Harding lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aubree Michel. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Michel posted two or more blocks.
Harding's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Mathews, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
Harding will be home for the holidays to greet Pymatuning Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pymatuning Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Harding in Ohio (Pymatuning Valley is ranked 188th, while Harding is ranked 650th). As for Mathews, they will head out on the road to face off against Jackson-Milton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Jackson-Milton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Thursday.
