AISA AAA Region 1 recap September 24, 2013
Gavin Sumrall and Montez Haynes provided fans with a highlight when they connected against East Memorial Christian Academy. The connection went for 96 yards, the longest such play in AISA AAA Region 1 this season.
Lee-Scott Academy took down Springwood 63-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jeremy Joseph threw for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 52 yards during the win.
Kingwood Christian's dynamic duo of Sumrall and Haynes proved tough for the Wildcats to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sumrall threw for 390 yards and 5 touchdowns and Haynes had 169 yards receiving. C'Yontai Lewis helped Kingwood Christian's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 83 yards.

Tanner Blatt was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 97 yards on 5 carries as the Warriors defeated East Memorial Christian Academy. Teammate Mitchell Lewis added to the ground attack by rushing for 99 yards.
Sumrall put up the best numbers in passing as Kingwood Christian topped the Wildcats.
The Lions' Sumrall and Haynes have formed a dream team this season, leading AISA AAA Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Sumrall has thrown for 1,530 yards this season, while Haynes has 30 catches for 646 yards. Lee-Scott Academy's Thomas DeGrange leads the league in rushing yards with 465.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bessemer Academy takes on Ward Military Academy. As it stands, the Rebels are in third, while the Fighting Rangers are in seventh.
Kingwood Christian made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,788 from 7,010. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 38-9 victory over East Memorial Christian Academy last week.
