Northern recap September 10, 2013
Yreka's Tyler Currie rumbled for the longest rushing play in Northern this season in his game against Mazama last week. Currie's team defeated the Vikings as he sprinted for 92 yards on the play and finished with 137 in all.
Corning scaled the state rankings by moving to 472 from 666 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Las Plumas 44-7.
Yreka's dynamic duo of Currie and Jacob Maphet proved tough for Mazama to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Currie threw for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns and Maphet had 38 yards receiving.
Orlyn L Culp II's team's dynamic duo of Currie and Maphet proved to be unstoppable against Vic Lease's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Jacob Melton was a key player and the best on defense this week as Anderson fell to Orland. The 6-foot-5 junior.
Austin Clark was a passing and rushing force as West Valley bested Shasta.
Currie put up the best numbers in passing as the Miners beat the Vikings.
Clark was a beast in the backfield as the Eagles defeated the Wolves.
Maphet was the best receiver in the league this week as Yreka defeated Mazama.
Clark was the best running back in Northern this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 352 yards as West Valley bested the Vikings. Teammate Marcus Simmons added to the ground attack by rushing for 136 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Currie of Yreka is the league leader in passing yards this season with 161. He has also thrown 2 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Simmons. The West Valley star has 3 catches for 52 yards.
Central Valley took down Astoria 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Connor Silveria ran for 132 yards in the win.
