Softball Recap: Summerfield Sets Scoring Season-High Against Union Parish

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Summerfield). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Union Parish Farmers a 21-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Rebels have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Stormy Middleton made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (two). She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ella Adkins and Adisyn Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Adkins scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Brown scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Adkins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Aniston Cupp, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

The victory (which was Summerfield's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Union Parish, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summerfield will welcome North Webster at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Union Parish, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Bastrop at 5:30 p.m.
