The Sutton Sammies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. The contest between them and Millbury wasn't particularly close, with Sutton falling 50-34. While losing is never fun, Sutton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Woolies are ranked 39th).
Sutton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charles Marchand, who scored eight points. Cam Benedict was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Millbury had a senior duo take command as Kenny Donnelly scored 18 points and Tyler Vaccaro scored 14 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Donnelly has scored at least a third of Millbury's points. Another player making a difference was Anthony Phillipo, who scored seven points.
Sutton has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Millbury, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Sutton will head out on the road to challenge the Beavers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Millbury, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Lancers at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th.
