The Rancho Bernardo Broncos will face off against the Mission Hills Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rancho Bernardo has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Mission Hills will arrive with four straight wins.
Things were looking good for Rancho Bernardo after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Del Norte by a score of 2-1.
Rancho Bernardo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Hausherr, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Mission Hills got the win against San Pasqual on Friday by a conclusive 14-2. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Grizzlies this season.
Oloa Motas and Leah Llamas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Motas pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Llamas pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Motas went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Llamas fired off two home runs, six RBI, and two doubles while going 4-for-5. Those two doubles gave Motas a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lillian Sengsouly was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Russell, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Mission Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Rancho Bernardo's loss dropped their record down to 8-10-1. As for Mission Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Rancho Bernardo was able to grind out a solid win over Mission Hills in their previous meeting back in April, winning 8-5. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
