Apache Junction hasn't had much luck against Seton Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Prospectors will head out to square off against the Sentinels at 6:00 p.m. Apache Junction is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Apache Junction lost 11-1 to Valley Christian on Thursday. The Prospectors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Isaiah Carranza was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Seton Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Minotaur a 13-0 shutout. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Max Peterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Garet Miller looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jax Minnis was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Ries, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Seton Catholic's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Apache Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Apache Junction suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Seton Catholic in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Prospectors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
