Kellenberg Memorial and Holy Trinity are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds will play host again and welcome the Holy Trinity Titans, where tip off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Back in December of 2023, Kellenberg Memorial was beaten by Kennedy Catholic 51-22. While losing is never fun, Kellenberg Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 147th).
Meanwhile, Holy Trinity's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by St. Mary's at home and fell 80-33. Holy Trinity has struggled against St. Mary's recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Holy Trinity's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Maya Logie, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds, and Alana Goodson who scored six points along with five rebounds. That was a full 60.6% of Holy Trinity's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Holy Trinity struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Kellenberg Memorial now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Holy Trinity, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Kellenberg Memorial strolled past Holy Trinity in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 69-51. Will Kellenberg Memorial repeat their success, or does Holy Trinity have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
