Lewis & Clark is 1-9 against Shadle Park since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will head out to take on the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. Lewis & Clark will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Lewis & Clark is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Gonzaga Prep with a sharp 17-3 win two weeks ago. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bullpups recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Lewis & Clark got a great performance from Lucy Piskel as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Vienna Klein was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Beibhinn Kilgore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Lewis & Clark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Shadle Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Central Valley, falling 20-6.
Abby Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Tatum Piper also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Lewis & Clark's record now sits at 2-7. As for Shadle Park, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lewis & Clark has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Shadle Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lewis & Clark couldn't quite finish off Shadle Park in their previous meeting back in March and fell 18-16. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
