The Macksville Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Kinsley Coyotes at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully Macksville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Macksville can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup. Everything went their way against Victoria as Macksville made off with a 54-32 win. Given Macksville's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Knights are ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Macksville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mayce Russell, who scored 19 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Isabela Ortiz, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine steals.
Meanwhile, Kinsley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Otis-Bison by a score of 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Kinsley has suffered against the Cougars since January 13, 2015.
The win makes it two in a row for Macksville and bumps their season record up to 9-5. As for Kinsley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Macksville against the Coyotes when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 65-13 win. With Macksville ahead 43-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.
