The Cyprus Pirates will head out to face off against the West Field Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cyprus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
While Cyprus' victory against Tooele wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Buffaloes on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 8th.
Breelyn ( Bree ) Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adelaide ( Addie ) Winn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Frankee Kelsch was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Field faced Ridgeline in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Longhorns blew past the Riverhawks 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brinklee Hadley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Field let Clair Nessen and Ayzlee Sessions run wild. Nessen went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Sessions went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Nessen has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ella Doxey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
West Field lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
West Field has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cyprus, their record now sits at 12-9.
