Eunice is a perfect 10-0 against Texico since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. Eunice is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
Eunice had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Jal on Tuesday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Panthers. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Haziel Goitia tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Tyson Coy was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Jose Calvillo was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Eunice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jal only posted an OBP of .304.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Texico was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Rosa. The Wolverines' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Hunter Bowman was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Fuentes, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Texico's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Eunice, their record now sits at 17-4.
Texico's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eunice has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Texico, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Eunice's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolverines will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eunice took their victory against Texico in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 15-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
