The Greene County Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Marion Rams at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Greene County has struggled recently with 11 losses in a row, while Marion will arrive with four straight victories.
Last Monday, things could have been worse for Greene County, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-38 loss to American Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Greene County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while American Christian Academy is ranked 146th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Michael Gibson, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for he. The team also got some help courtesy of Jhari Barnes, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Greene County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their seventh loss (out of seven games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Marion didn't have too much trouble with Choctaw County at home on Tuesday as they won 61-42.
Greene County bumped their record down to 0-10 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Marion, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Things could have been worse for Greene County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-48 loss to Marion when the teams last played back in January. Can Greene County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
