Baseball Game Preview: Union Pines Vikings vs. Western Harnett Eagles

Union Pines has gone 8-2 against Western Harnett recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Union Pines Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Western Harnett Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Union Pines is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Union Pines had taken Scotland down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. Union Pines fell 11-7 to Scotland.

Preston Whitaker and Kaeden Sovey did some serious damage despite the final result: Whitaker scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Sovey scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. Union Pines is 2-1 when Whitaker posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jaxon West, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Union Pines was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Western Harnett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-1 to Pine Forest, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Western Harnett saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Mazurowski, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Mazurowski has posted since back in March of 2024. Haden Mazzullo also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Union Pines now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Western Harnett, their record now sits at 0-7.

Union Pines came out on top in a nail-biter against Western Harnett in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Does Union Pines have another victory up their sleeve, or will Western Harnett turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
