The Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers will challenge the Bedford Bisons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Philipsburg-Osceola's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Bedford's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Philipsburg-Osceola fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bellefonte on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 5-4.

Archer Baughman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Baughman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Guenot, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bedford). They blew past Richland 22-4 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Bisons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Like Philipsburg-Osceola, Bedford also got a great game from a two-way player: Owen Horne. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Horne a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with seven RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quincy Swaim, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Joey Huxta was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
Bedford pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.
Philipsburg-Osceola skirted past Bedford 6-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Mountaineers repeat their success, or do the Bisons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
