Baseball Recap: Washburn Has No Trouble Against Roosevelt

Washburn won against St. Paul Central on Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Millers blew past the Roosevelt Teddies 13-5. With that victory, the Millers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ben Vanderley Klaassen looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Wyatt Shelton was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Nolan Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Washburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Washburn is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Washburn will head out to face off against Owatonna at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Roosevelt, they will face off against Camden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
