The Southport Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Bloomington North, falling 65-38. While losing is never fun, Southport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while Bloomington North is ranked 106th).
Despite the loss, Southport had strong showings from Lorelei bennett, who scored 7 points, and Sophia Nguyen, who scored 6 points along with 11 rebounds. Nguyen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Graycee Eacret was another key contributor, scoring 4 points.
It was another big night for Ava Reitmeyer, who scored 19 points for Bloomington North. That makes it five consecutive games in which Reitmeyer has scored at least 25% of Bloomington North's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Burton, who scored 12 points.
Southport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Bloomington North, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southport will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 6:30 p.m. on December 5th. As for Bloomington North, they will challenge Owen Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
