It was a good run, but the Mt. Zion Prep Academy Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 74-66 to Shining Star Sports Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Mt. Zion Prep Academy still got an impressive performance from Jniya Weaver, who scored 30 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makyiah Ward, who scored 14 points.
Sira Thienou continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shining Star Sports Academy, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 14 rebounds. Thienou has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Harrissoum Coulibaly, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Shining Star Sports Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing TPLS Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Mt. Zion Prep Academy will host TPLS Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Shining Star Sports Academy will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
