The St. Joseph Academy Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge the Rocky River Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Joseph Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
St. Joseph Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Lorain 25-9 on Thursday. The Jaguars have beaten the Titans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Titans has come to flipping the script.
Amelia Reyes was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ailish Ruane, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
St. Joseph Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rocky River came up short against Buckeye on Wednesday, falling 14-4. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bucks recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Rocky River also got a good showing from Ava Mae DeMooy, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. DeMooy has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Leigh Konet made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
St. Joseph Academy's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Rocky River, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Joseph Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Rocky River struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Joseph Academy came up short against Rocky River when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 12-8. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
