Alvin Henderson of
Elba became the all-time leading rusher in Alabama High School Athletic Association history Friday night, going for 199 yards and four touchdowns in a 40-24 win over
Florala.
Coming into the game needing just 104 yards to break the record, Henderson nearly got that on his scoring runs alone, reaching the end zone on plays covering 42, 34, 7 and 5 yards.
Henderson rushed for 41 yards in the first quarter. The 5-foot-11 back piled up 47 more rushing yards in the second quarter to bring his total to 88 yards on 15 carries at halftime with his team trailing by six points.
Henderson put Elba ahead 19-18 early in the third quarter with a seven-yard touchdown, then broke the state record minutes later on another seven-yard run.
The four-star Auburn pledge surpassed previous record-holder Mac Campbell of
Alexandria, who finished his career with 9,839 rushing yards back in 1997.

Leading the nation in rushing this season, Henderson is on track to become the 12th player in high school football history to rush for 10,000 yards as he sits 65 yards away from another major milestone in his career.
Unofficially, Henderson has 2,625 yards and 46 touchdowns through 10 games. That comes on the heels of a tremendous junior campaign that saw him run for state records of 3,523 yards and 61 rushing touchdowns to earn first team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors.
Henderson's now has 9,935 yards on the ground and 192 total touchdowns in 52 career games. He established new career highs in rushing yards with 446 and rushing touchdowns with nine in an 80-78 loss to
McKenzie earlier this season.
Although regular season play wraps up this week, Henderson could potentially have five more opportunities to take the field if the Tigers are able to advance to the Class 1A state title game.
