The Oak Lawn Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Downers Grove North Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Saturday, Oak Lawn got the win against De La Salle by a conclusive 11-1. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 games by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Peyton Melnik, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.
Oak Lawn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as De La Salle only posted an OBP of .346.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Downers Grove North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out York 10-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Downers Grove North got a massive performance out of Edgar Santos, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Russ Oros, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Oak Lawn's victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-12. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Downers Grove North, their record is now 26-7.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oak Lawn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Downers Grove North struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
