Another reason for the win was Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Marco Maynez. Another thorn in Edinburg North's side was Jordan Palomin, who made 18 total tackles (4.5 for loss) and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, La Joya didn't have quite enough to beat Economedes on Thursday and fell 59-56. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (48), the Coyotes still had to take the loss.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will have to contain Mauricio Mendoza as he made an impact in La Joya's last game. He rushed for 375 yards and six TDs while picking up 15.0 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, Mendoza is now up to 20 rushing touchdowns on the season.
