Hartland is 9-1 against Howell since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Hartland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Fenton with a sharp 15-3 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Alayna Gardner and Reese Dunny did most of the damage at the plate: Gardner went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBI, while Dunny went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Dunny has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Spisz, who went 1-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hartland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Howell waltzed into their game on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Highlanders have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Allison Ulanowski's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Caldwell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Sophia May was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Hartland's record is now 9-5-1. As for Howell, their record now sits at 20-11-1.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hartland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Howell struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hartland skirted past Howell 8-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
