If the Carlin Railroaders were feeling good off their 46-15 takedown of the GV Christian Guardians on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Carlin fell 29-19 to Round Mountain on Friday. Carlin lost against Round Mountain in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-39 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Carlin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kylie Kennedy. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kennedy scored a full 68.4% of Carlin's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Urenda, who scored 6 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Round Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Layla Faga, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Faga has scored at least 25% of Round Mountain's points. Ava Faga was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
Carlin's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Round Mountain, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Carlin's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tonopah at 2:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Tonopah comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Round Mountain, they will face off against Eureka at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
