The Anthem Prep Eagles will head out to face off against the Maryvale Prep Matador at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Anthem Prep made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Ray, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Anthem Prep never let Ray get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 15 runs or more this season.
Bailey McCabe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Rhyan Cantelme and Addison Evjen did most of the damage at the plate: Cantelme scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3, while Evjen went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Evjen a new career-high in hits. Grace Stillwell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Anthem Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ray only posted a batting average of .133.
Meanwhile, Maryvale Prep got the win against Madison Highland Prep on Tuesday by a conclusive 31-9.
Maryvale Prep got a massive performance out of Ava Ruiz, who scored five runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Basurto Ibanez, who scored five runs and stole Six bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Maryvale Prep now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Anthem Prep, their record now sits at 3-1.
Maryvale Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Anthem Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Maryvale Prep, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Anthem Prep's sizable advantage in that area, Maryvale Prep will need to find a way to close that gap.
Anthem Prep took their victory against Maryvale Prep in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 22-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Anthem Prep since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
